AWAM established the Telenita phone counselling service in 1990. Partly as a result of our success in raising public awareness about violence against women issues, we began to receive a growing number of calls in relation to women and children who had been abused. Demand for this service continued to rise, and we later expanded our assistance to include face-to-face counselling and legal information services as well.

We offer the above services because we believe that:

• Every woman should have control over her life in ways that she decides is best;
• Any form of violence or sexual assault against women is a crime and act of aggression and intimidation; and
• Women who face violence have a right to medical, legal and social support.

All consultations are strictly confidential.
