Advocacy & Research Intern

What is my job scope in this internship?

You will assist in the planning, execution and monitoring of AWAM’s research, advocacy and/or social media projects surrounding women’s rights and gender-based violence. Examples of tasks that may be delegated to you include:

  • Conducting daily media monitoring on women’s rights and gender-based violence in Malaysia
  • Researching and producing copywriting content on women’s rights and gender-based violence for social media posts
  • Assisting in preparing reports, presentations and/or proposals
  • Assisting in organising AWAM-led/organized training and public education events

 

Is the internship full or part-time?

It can be either. For part-time internships, you must be able to work full-day for a minimum of two to three weekdays weekly.

What are my working hours?

You will work from 9.00am to 6.00pm (this includes your 1-hour break) on weekdays, excluding public holidays and weekends. Depending on whether your internship is a full or part-time one: your working days will either be from Mondays to Fridays for full-time internships, or a minimum of two weekdays for part-time internships. 

However, you may need to work occasionally on Saturdays or Sundays, if you assist in organising or running events.

How long can my internship be?

Your internship should be at a minimum of three months

Do I get any remuneration?

Interns will receive a monthly remuneration of RM500. For interns who work less than 5 days weekly, remuneration will be on a pro-rated basis.

Counselling Practicum

Are there any application criteria?

Yes, you would need to be currently pursuing a practicum under your Master’s of Counselling postgraduate degree. 

What is my job scope in this internship?

Your primary responsibility will be to provide counselling services to clients. Counselling services are currently online, due to the pandemic and movement restrictions. Other corresponding tasks include: 

  • Fielding phone calls, as well as WhatsApp and Telegram messages to the Telenita or AWAM main phone line 
  • Writing case reports on the counselling cases that you have handled 
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date database and client file records

Occasionally, you may be given opportunities to participate in or conduct talks/programs/trainings on gender-based violence.

You will be working from 9.30am to 5.30pm on weekdays, excluding public holidays and weekends. Depending on whether your internship is a full or part-time one: your working days will either be from Mondays to Fridays for full-time internships, or a minimum of two weekdays for part-time internships. 

Nevertheless, you may need to work occasionally on Saturdays or Sundays, if you participate in or conduct any talks/programs/trainings on gender-based violence.

Will I be working at the office or from home?

Counselling practicums are currently online. Nevertheless, we may arrange to have you work in the office on certain days, should there be changes in COVID-19 protocols within the office.

Unfortunately, as much as we would like to offer you a small stipend, we are not financially able to do so.
